CHARITY CAMPAIGN

Summary

Following my father’s diagnosis with motor neurone disease (MND), I launched a fundraising campaign for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) with a goal of raising £3,000 in 12 months. With a blend of creativity, traditional running challenges, and interactive milestones, I ended up doubling my initial target, raising over £6,000 in total.

Objectives

(1) Fundraising: Raise £3,000 for MNDA within 12 months

(2) Engagement: Actively involve donors through interactive challenges linked to fundraising milestones

(3) Awareness: Use social media to raise awareness of MNDA and encourage wider participation and support

Approach & Delivery

  • Partnered with a friend to broaden reach and momentum

  • Took part in four endurance and participation-based running events:

    • Tough Mudder

    • Reading Half Marathon

    • 5K Colour Run (completed three-legged)

    • Bournemouth Marathon

  • Designed a milestone-led fundraising model, introducing a new challenge at every £1,000 raised

  • Used polls to involve donors directly, allowing them to choose challenges and participants

  • Filmed and documented each challenge, sharing content via a dedicated YouTube channel

  • Actively engaged supporters across Facebook and Instagram through regular updates and storytelling

  • Collaborated with MNDA as an official fundraising ambassador, contributing content for newsletters and socials

  • Spoke at regional conferences, sharing the campaign journey and raising awareness of MND

Outcomes & Impact

  • More than doubled the original fundraising goal, raising over £6,000 (excluding Gift Aid) - see HERE

  • Built a strong and engaged online community through interactive challenges and shared storytelling

  • Gained recognition from MNDA for the campaign’s creativity and impact

    • leading to invitations to speak at regional conferences and events
